Celtic Colours: John MacDougall’s Tunebook

  • 7:30pm

ALL TICKETS FOR CELTIC COLOURS EVENTS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE.

Starting in the early 1970s, fiddler and composer John MacDougall, from Inverness County, would compose 20-50 tunes a day, amassing more than 38,000 in the those four decades. He was very protective of these tunes, believing they came to him from deceased players and so only a handful have ever been reproduced in print. Tonight we will unveil just a few of his compositions in a special show comprised mainly of fellow Cape Breton musicians who have played with John or are directly connected to him. A small selection of tunes from the vault will be performed tonight on fiddle, pipes, guitar, piano and more.

Performers include Ian MacDougall, Mac Morin, Allan MacDonald, Shelly Campbell, Kenneth MacKenzie, Kyle MacDonald & Penny Kennedy, Kyle Gillis, Harvey MacKinnon, Pius MacIsaac, and Féis Cheap Breatuinn.

Hosted by Dalbrae Academy
